A group of commercial sex workers from Jumabhai road in Soroti municipality stormed Soroti Central Police Station on Christmas Eve to bail out their colleague.
The unidentified commercial sex worker had been picked up for alleged theft of a mobile phone belonging to his colleague. However, her colleagues mobilized Shillings , to compensate the phone owner, saying they won't allow her to miss her customers during Christmas.
They compensated the complainants and secured the release of their colleague. He said for now they are treating the issue of commercial sex workers as rumors until they find some facts. The decision by the commercial workers to come out openly has raised concern among some residents. Michael Opinya, a resident of Soroti of Nakatunya ward in Soroti Municipality told URN that the action taken by the commercial sex workers shows that Soroti town is steadily becoming a sizzling zone for sex workers.
