Me and my friends all female have just booked a trip to SB for July. Afterwards a few friends told me to cancel the trip and not to go as it is just a waster of money. Also that it's just full of prostitutes and pickpockets and it's a dick-fest. I'm worried about going and don't know whether to cancel the trip?!
Any advice?! Today's advice from the UK Gov website on Bulgaria :. Be aware of pickpockets in city centres and tourist resorts especially in crowded areas like buses, trains and busy streets.
There has been an increase in burglaries from hotel rooms in Sunny Beach. Keep valuables in a safe. See Crime. There may be disruption or delays at border crossings with Greece. See Local travel. There are regular reports of robberies and threatening behaviour by taxi drivers in Sunny Beach. There are sporadic protests across Bulgaria. Avoid all protests, keep up to date with media reports and follow the advice of the local authorities.
If you need to contact the emergency services in Bulgaria call English speaking operators are available. See Health. I think everywhere in Europe you will have to be aware of any potential attacks, etc. But if we listened t every little warning nobody would be going on holiday anywhere.
I'm sure its not as bad as the gov or your friends make out! We are pensioners and have been going for ten years, we are safer there than at home. As you would wherever you are in the world be sensible and look after yourself and belongings and you will have a fab holiday. Don't listen to scaremongering from people who probably have never been. The Gov website has had those warning posted on Bulgaria for years just as they have on most other resorts including London.
